Parler de la guerre : Dialogues dans les romans de la Première Guerre mondiale

This article discusses problems involved in the literary representation of argot and spoken language in the context of the First World War based on the analysis of a multilingual corpus including the French novel Le Feu, written by Henri Barbusse in 1916, its German version, Das Feuer, translated by Leo von Meyenbourg in 1918, as well as the German novel Im Westen nichts Neues, written by Erich Maria Remarque in 1929, and its French translation À l’Ouest, rien de nouveau by Alzir Hella and Olivier Bournac published the same year. Dans cet article, nous nous intéresserons à l’imitation d’un parler argotique et popu- laire dans la littérature romanesque publiée dans le contexte de la Première Guerre mondiale. En appuyant notre analyse sur un corpus franco-allemand réunissant, d’un côté, le roman français Le Feu d’Henry Barbusse (1916) et sa version allemande Das Feuer traduite en 1918 par Leo von Meyenbourg et, d’un autre côté, le roman allemand Im Westen nichts Neues d’Erich Maria Remarque et sa traduction française À l’Ouest, rien de nouveau d’Alzir Hella et Olivier Bournac, tous deux publiés en 1929, nous serons en mesure de discuter les différents problèmes liés à l’emploi de telles variations langagières ainsi qu’à leur traduction
