Summary:The present study verified glucose homeostasis as well as water and food intakes of rats fed in a diet adding creatine. Ten male Wistar rats were subjected to cross-over test and fed a diet added creatine in saturated phase cell (peak) (AIN-93M + 13% of creatine) or a standard diet (AIN-93M). Body weight and water and food intakes were recorded five days/week; at the end of each period of creatine administration (10 days) the animals performed GTT and ITT tests. The creatine administration in the phase peak did not alter glucose homeostasis, increased water intake and decreased food intake. Further studies are required in order to verify how the creatine administration in the phase peak may change the water balance, the intra and extracellular osmolality, and even the mechanisms of thirst, hunger and satiety, which are modulated by hypothalamus. Key words: Creatine. Carbohydrate Metabolism. Rats.
