Summary:[Eliot Spitzer] is not the first governor in state history to have an aggressive agenda. Nelson Rockefeller and Hugh Carey were strong personalities who knew from the day they took office exactly what they expected to accomplish. Rockefeller and Carey were from two different worlds, but each was determined to woo and win the support of the state Legislature, regardless of how long it would take. Spitzer has not been willing to take the slow, winding path of his predecessors. Not this year and not this governor. Spitzer has spent at least $500,000 of his campaign funds to defend his financial plan and label his opponents as "crybabies" wedded to the status quo. In the weeks ahead, Spitzer is expected to continue his defense of his budget, which will keep his opponents off guard and uncertain.
