Summary: | Taligent Inc, the Apple/IBM joint venture, will cooperate with HP to develop object-oriented computing platforms. Taligent is working on an object-oriented operating system for multiple platforms, and the company will license HP technology that will facilitate distribution of applications written for Taligent across a network. The technology is HP's Distributed Object management Facility (DOMF), an implementation of the Object Management Group's Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA). Also, Taligent will provide HP with a development framework, expected in Apr 1994, that will provide HP/UX operating-system users with a migration path to object-oriented applications. The agreement, which is subject to regulatory approval, specifies that HP will acquire a 15 percent stake in Taligent. |
