Summary:Gavras's films have encompassed the Holocaust in Music Box (1989) and Amen (2002), U.S. interventions in South American politics in State of Siege (1972) and Missing (1982), the dehumanizing impact of corporate capitalism in The Ax (2005) and Capital (2012), and, more recently, the refugee crisis in Eden Is West (2009), and a return to his roots with Adults in the Room (2019), a dramatization of the Greek financial bailout in 2015. [...]Costa-Gavras: Encounters with History is divided into five not quite chronological parts, even though some move sequentially through his career, organized by thematic or geographical aspects. Ultimately, Costa-Gavras's future legacy will be well served by this invaluable volume, which offers fresh insights and perspectives on the director's body of work. Since Costa-Gavras is still active today, currently preparing a TV series, the Michalczyks will most likely need eventually to prepare an updated edition. -
