Politics and the restoration parish: Edward Fowler and the struggle for St Giles Cripplegate

During the Tory purge of the 1680s, Edward Fowler, vicar of St Giles Cripplegate, was singled out and became a victim of harassment. After a revolution unseated James II, Fowler was saved and became Bishop of Gloucester.
