Summary:This study reviews the ISO documentation of codes for fluid power systems. The use of correct symbols for different components and circuit diagrams is important. Fluid power systems have a lot of applications due to their high power to weight ratio. To communicate the specifications and arrangement of pumps, motors, valves, actuators and other accessories in a hydraulic or pneumatic system, developing of rules and standards is important so as to have a common vocabulary to understand the system. This paper focuses on the correct use of the latest edition of ISO 1219. This study explains why there was a need for introducing new edition of ISO 1219. The main differences between the latest version and the old version are highlighted and analyzed for correct usage in practical situations.
