Summary:Pamela Sterne King at the University of Alabama at Birmingham rallied an enthusiastic and energetic team of colleagues there and at Samford University to organize a number of activities, walking and bus tours, film showings, exhibits, and receptions that allowed attendees a chance to experience much of the vast range of Birmingham's industrial, cultural, and civil rights history. President Daniel contributed a very different and quite sobering perspective on the civil rights movement in his presidential address, in which he detailed the U.S. Department of Agriculture's woeful record of discrimination against African American farmers at federal, state, and local levels during and long after the civil rights era.
