Summary:Global spending on refining catalysts will increase to about $2.78 billion by 2005, with a growth rate of about 4.9%/year. Hydrotreating, FCC, and hydrocracking catalyst markets will increase 5.7%/year, 3.3%/year, and 22.8%/year, respectively, while the naphtha reforming catalyst market will remain flat. Refining processing capacity will increase to about 95.4 million b/d (4.3%/year) by 2005. The main catalytic processes will experience growth rates of about: 5.8%/year for hydrotreating, 2.6%/year for FCC; 17.4%/year for hydrocracking; and 2.3%/year for naphtha reforming. Catalyst companies will employ mergers, joint ventures, and acquisitions to respond to customer needs. These companies will continue to make strong efforts in research and development, and adopt methods to accelerate product development. Future catalyst developments will focus on improved product quality, increased activity performance, optimized processes, and lower catalyst prices.
