Summary: | M.C. M.D. U.S. Army Dispensary Norman Wells Cause of death: ruptured appendix On March 13TH, your father flew into Norman Wells to meet an employee of Imperial Oil, as well as the local Catholic priest. In his letter, he writes that Joe had been working for the river barging firm Northern Transportation Company Limited, or NTCL, which had shut down for freeze-up at the start of October. Why was he treated in the US Army hospital at Canol Camp, across the river and several kilometres out, rather than in the Imperial Oil hospital at Norman Wells? The company also ran barges east of Tulit'a, up the Great Bear River, and across the vast expanse of Great Bear Lake to Port Radium. |
