Summary:Dendrimer synthesis has made substantial progress over the past two decades. Various types of dendrimer have been developed, and these have attracted considerable interest owing to their unique physical and chemical properties. In particular, the morphology and the photochemical function of por-phyrin dendrimers resembles that of the light-harvesting antenna LH2 system of photosynthetic purple bacteria and has thus created interest as artificial photosynthetic devices.
