Summary:Murray et al discuss the relationship between resource consumption and the Hospital Admission Risk Profile in identifying patients at risk for functional decline during hospitalization. The study aims to examine hospital charges of patients over age 65 years stratified by age group and determine if there is a relationship between functional decline in the elderly and their hospital charges. Basing on the HARP score, the study revealed differences in resource utilization by age group with a surprisingly lower utilization rate among the oldest patients.
