Summary: | Factors influencing the restoration of wetlands in the headwaters of the Big Darby Creek watershed, central OH, were studied from 2000-02, to develop a restoration plan. Hydrology and water quality data revealed low DO at times during the summer in Darby Creek, as well as other degraded conditions. Seasonal and permanent differences between Darby Creek and Flat Branch are described. Creation/restoration of riparian wetlands at the confluence of Big Darby Creek and Flat Branch is recommended as a way to resolve degrading water quality in this watershed. Flood pulses could be directed to the riparian wetland area to minimize downstream erosion and pollutant capture. Habitat, flood control, and ecotourism are other potential gains of a restored riparian wetland. |
