Using synchrotron anomalous x-ray diffraction, the authors studied the structure of bimetallic Pt-Re catalysts with SiO[sub 2] as a support. The results reveal the presence of Re with a face-centered cubic structure in these catalysts. The authors propose that this form of Re is grown on Pt by an epitaxial effect.
