Summary: | The EBS focuses on the impact of the Soldiers, mission, and occupation on the environment as a way to prevent and/or limit Soldier exposure to hazards, to document existing environmental issues for the purpose of force health protection, to reduce U.S. liability after operations are completed, and to determine the viability of the property as a base camp location to conduct the mission. If qualifed personnel are not available to complete the EBS during contingency operations, a training support package can be requested from the U.S. Army Engineer School, Directorate of Environmental Integration, at usarmy.leonard wood.engineer-schl.mbx.deiail.mil.3 The Enviromen- tal Surveys Handbook: Contingency Operations (Overseas) 2013 contains a checklist to gather EBS information and the format used to document the report.4 Both documents were correlated with the OEHSA template when they were developed. |
