Summary: | Quick ways to help ensure reports are written below the typical high school reading level include changing psychometric jargon and an emphasis on score comparisons to behavioral terms, shortening sentences, and organizing information into themes. The Centers for Disease Control has developed free research-based tools to help providers, including school psychologists, move toward the goal of improving health literacy (e.g., Clear Communication Index; Toolkit for Making Written Material Clear and Effective). Full Scale Intelligence Quotient (FSIQ): Riki earned a Full Scale IQ (FSIQ) of 92 (range 87–98), but this estimate of overall intellectual ability cannot be interpreted as meaningful because of the high degree of variability among the five indexes that compose the FSIQ. Because Riki's scores are so scattered, the Nonverbal Index (NVI) provides an estimate of Rikis’ general cognitive abilities without factoring in her lower scores on the Verbal Comprehension Index (VCI). |
