Summary:Society has been searching for a Fountain of Youth for millennia with the hope that both longevity and vitality could be extended beyond current experience. Around the world people have seen significant gains in longevity. This trend will have significant effects on the behaviors of individuals and their families, businesses, and governments, and they should prepare for the likely consequences of these changes. The focus of this article is the interaction of these behaviors on the various constituent elements of the society. This paper concludes that longevity risk needs to be considered by all the constituent elements of society. Various alternative strategies should be examined to determine how they will affect future courses of conduct. No one size fits all. Moreover, the best strategy may well change over time and advice from various key professionals should be obtained to increase the likelihood that individuals, their families, and their employers will satisfy their objectives.
