Summary: | Cardiac troponins are the preferred biomarkers for diagnosing Acute Myocardial Infarction(AMI). In patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome, increased levels of cTns are associated with increased risk of death and re-admissions, and identify patients who benefit from early, intensified treatment. In patients with stable Coronary Artery Disease(CAD), cTn measured by a high sensitive assay is detectable in the large majority of patients. Interestingly, even levels below the 99th percentile of a healthy reference population provide prognostic information, and predict risk of mortality and development of Heart Failure, and in AMI. |
