US legislators continue to seek hydraulic fracturing compromise
In the House, Reps. Maurice Hinchey (D-New York) and Michael Arcuri (D-New York) succeeded in attaching a provision to oil spill legislation that would end an exemption under the Clean Water Act and require producers to obtain permits for their drilling sites. The bill passed the House Jul. 30.
