Summary: | Wil Jacobs, director of housing policy for the Louisiana Recovery Authority, said roughly 50,000 small rental properties were damaged, but the federal Community Development Block Grant dollars is slated to cover 15,000 units, he said. The program, administered through The Road Home program, on Thursday announced 5,200 rental units in 13 of the most damaged parishes in south Louisiana were slated to receive funds under the first round. Jacobs said he expects there to be two more rounds of funding. When asked why nearly 20 months after Hurricane Katrina small rental property owners have not received federal funds from the state to rebuild their units, Jacobs said "the big need and big push" was to get rebuilding dollars to homeowners first. |
