Summary:Nine Merino ewes were placed in metabolism-digestibility crates, and offered 3 diets (D1, D2, D3) according to dehydrated alfalfa (200, 250, 300 g per d) and dehydrated sugar-beet pulp levels (100, 150, 200 g per d), plus molasses straw pellets (MSP) ad libitum and mineral supplement. Within each diet, the 3 ewes were dosed with PEG in solution (40, 60, 80 g per d). DMI and total faeces dry matter (TFDM) were measured. PEG in faeces were determined by NIRS. The SE of prediction was 2.2-2.5 g per kg. Individual recovering rate was 98 per cent. Whatever the PEG concentration, faeces DM content decreased. DMI of MSP for D1, D2 and D3 increased as well as TFDM. Two weeks after stopping PEG dosage, DMI and TFDM remained stable. Although the effect of PEG on faeces DM content has already been reported, its effects on DMI and TFDM were never reported. This could be related to the high DM content of the diet
