Summary: | Personal interviews were conducted with 19 logging contractors and 140 of their employees in Georgia to determine demographics, their views about the logging profession, and experience with training programs. Less than half of the employees interviewed had finished high school, few had military experience, and almost no one had received formal training in how to perform their job. They were satisfied with logging as a line of work and with their wages, but wanted health insurance and retirement plans as additional benefits. Neither logging contractors nor their employees currently rate training as very important in improving their productivity or job performance |
