Summary: | Effect of endoparasitsm in companion animals is as significant as ectoparasitsm. Commonly, in routine practice deworming in canines is carried out prior to vaccination. Due to obvious limitations, it is not always feasible for a practitioner to have faecal samples analysed and most of the times, anti-parasitic agents prescribed or dispensed are indicated for round worms. The usage of anti-cestodal drugs is restricted until the case is suspected for having tapeworm infection. Moreover, because no one anthelmintic compound is effective against all round and tapeworms, combination products that include effective cestocides formulated with one or more drugs with nematodicidal property have been developed. In the present study, an attempt was made to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of one such combination formulation, Drontal Plus (a product of Bayer A G), as a routine dewormer prior to immunisation. Also, an assessment was made of any untoward effect following administration, particularly in cases showing no parasitic ova. |
