monoclonal antibody, JIM 84, recognizes the Golgi apparatus and plasma membrane in plant cells

A monoclonal antibody, JIM 84, was raised against a carrot coated vesicle fraction. Immunofluorescence and immunogold labelling show that the JIM 84 epitope is localized in all the cisternae of the Golgi apparatus and is associated with the plasma membrane in a range of different plant cell types. Summary:A monoclonal antibody, JIM 84, was raised against a carrot coated vesicle fraction. Immunofluorescence and immunogold labelling show that the JIM 84 epitope is localized in all the cisternae of the Golgi apparatus and is associated with the plasma membrane in a range of different plant cell types. Periodate treatment of coated vesicle preparations monitored by ELISA, suggests the JIM 84 epitope is a glycoprotein, whilst SDS-PAGE gels of carrot and maize microsomal preparations show that the antibody recognizes peptides of Mr 25-70,000.
