Summary:The availability of veterinary medicines in the European Union becomes a major problem for food producing animals because a lot of substances will be lost at the end of this century. This paper presents the background of this situation and the solutions proposed to improve the availability of medicines in the European Union, taking into account the particular situation in Belgium.
