日本近世初期文学に於ける医学的影響

江戸時代初期の文学である仮名草子には、多くの書物に医学的文章の記述が見られる。それらの内容は、(1)病気に関するもの、(2)医者に関するもの、(3)治療法に関するもの、(4)薬の処方に関するもの、(5)医学書に関するもの、などであった。これらを具体的に指摘しつつ、各作品の意図や背景について述べる。次に、これら医学的記述が行われた時代性について、この著述を行った作者群に即して考察を行った。まず、(1)僧侶でありながら講釈なども扱ったと推測される浅井了意の作品とその素材について、(2)戦国時代から江戸時代にかけて、大名のそばにつかえて様々な話題を提供したお伽衆の活躍について、(3)庶民的な作品として、娯楽的な作品を著述した町人作家について、また、江戸時代初期にそれまでの医学界の在り方を変革し、多くの著述と出版による公開を通じて新医学の発展につとめた曲直瀬玄朔(まなせげんさく)について述べた。そして、これらの医学的著述が、さらに本格的小説の素材として利用されてゆく過程として、(4)浮世草子作家である井原西鶴の『武道伝来記』の1章を取り上げて、その構想について考察した。以上の考察を通じて、江戸時代初期文学における医学的影響を次の5点にまとめることができると論じた。(1)医学的知識の啓蒙･紹介、(2)教訓･滑稽など各種説話としての利用、(3)妙薬としての実用的紹介、(4)怪談説話としての利用、(5)庶民小説としての利用 Many instances of medical writing can be seen in the kanazoshi, a form of literature of the early Edo period. This content includes descriptions of: (1) sickness and disease, (2) doctors, (3) treatments, (4) prescription of medicines, (5) medical literature, and so on. While pointing out concrete examples of these themes, this study examines the intent and background of each work. Next, a study was carried out on the authors of these medical accounts in the context of the era in which they were written. First: (1) regarding the works of Asai Ryoi, a Buddhist priest who is surmised to have also lectured; (2) regarding the various topics taken up by the otogishu, officials who worked closely with the daimyo from the warring states period through to the Edo period; (3) regarding the ordinary and entertainment works of common writers, and the development of new medical study by Manase Gensaku, who worked to reform contemporary medicine through the publishing of many articles in the early Edo period. Then, it considered the process whereby these medical writings further developed to be used as a full-scale subject in novels through the example of (4) the first chapter of Budo Denraiki by Ihara Saikaku, an author known for his ukiyozoshi, which were another form of early Edo era literature. Based on these examinations, it is argued that medical influence in early Edo period literature can be summed up in the following five points: (1) the enlightenment and introduction of medical knowledge; (2) its use in morality, comical, and other tales; (3) the practical use of specific medicines; (4) its use in ghost stories; (5) its use in common novels.
