Human mammary slices in organ culture: I. Method of culture and preliminary observations on the effect of insulin

Summary: | A technique for culture of human mammary slices has been devised, which permits survival and limited proliferation of all elements for periods up to 12 days
in vitro. Slices survive in a variety of media with or without serum, providing that glucose concentrations are maintained above critical levels.
In these organ cultures, addition of insulin to the medium results in marked morphological changes of ductal epithelium including proliferation, hypertrophy, and foci resembling squamous metaplasia. |
