Summary:The crystal and molecular structure of the low temperature phase of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon pyrene has been determined for the first time by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The crystal structure at 93 K is shown to be in excellent agreement with that obtained by the refinement of powder neutron diffraction data for pyrene II obtained at 4.2 K.
