Production of duodenal ulcers by exogenous gastrin: An experimental model

These experiments demonstrate that hog gastrin combined with gelatin gave a sustained release of gastrin which resulted in a prolonged increase in gastric acid production in dogs with a Heidenhain pouch. Summary:These experiments demonstrate that hog gastrin combined with gelatin gave a sustained release of gastrin which resulted in a prolonged increase in gastric acid production in dogs with a Heidenhain pouch. When gastrin was given to guinea pigs in this manner at a dosage of 35 gm. of antral mucosa per kilogram of body weight every twelve hours, the incidence of duodenal ulcer was 74 per cent in thirty-five experimental animals within fourteen days.
