Pituitary metabolism of 5 α-androstane-3 β-17 β-diol: Intense and rapid conversion into 5 α-androstane-3 β,6 α,17 β-triol and 5 α-androstane-3 β,7 α, 17 β-triol

In the male rat pituitary, 5 α-androstane-3 β,17 β-diol (3 β-diol) is extensively metabolized into polar steroids. They were identified as 5 α-androstane-3 β,6 α-17 β-triol (6 α-triol) and 5 α-androstane-3 β,7 α,17 β-triol (7 α-triol). 6 α-Triol represents 53 % and 7 α-Triol 28 % of the total 3 β-di...

Summary:In the male rat pituitary, 5 α-androstane-3 β,17 β-diol (3 β-diol) is extensively metabolized into polar steroids. They were identified as 5 α-androstane-3 β,6 α-17 β-triol (6 α-triol) and 5 α-androstane-3 β,7 α,17 β-triol (7 α-triol). 6 α-Triol represents 53 % and 7 α-Triol 28 % of the total 3 β-diol metabolites. The remaining percentage is related to 6 β and 7 β isomers. The biological role of triols is still unknown.
