Interpretation of STM images: C 60 on the gold (110) surface

Using a new version of the STM elastic scattering quantum chemistry technique adapted for large adsorbates, an interpretation of the constant-current STM image of a single fullerene (C 60) molecule adsorbed on a non-reconstructed Au(110) surface is proposed. Summary:Using a new version of the STM elastic scattering quantum chemistry technique adapted for large adsorbates, an interpretation of the constant-current STM image of a single fullerene (C 60) molecule adsorbed on a non-reconstructed Au(110) surface is proposed. The non-resonant tunneling through molecular orbitals contrast mechanism is discussed. Tip apex and C 60 orientation images dependence are presented.
