Summary:This work had as objective to characterize the situation of the local pigs breeding, through the application of half-structuralized questionnaires, in the city of Remígio, Paraíba, Brazil. It was observed that this region is characterized for units of familiar agrarian production with 91.4 percent of the familiar man power and 86.2 percent of the units be situated in the agricultural zone, being that 87.9 percent. It was observed that 62.1 percent of the creators do not receive assistance technique and in 98.3 percent of the units does not have inspection for no agency. This work will being to characterize naturalized pigs, existing in the Paraíba, to acquire knowledge the agricultural producers on the importance of the genetic conservation of these animals and, finally to constitute the first data base of the region that gives to support the programs of pigs genetic conservation.
