Summary:In this paper a literary analysis of the structure and arrangement of López Pinciano’s epic poem Pelayo is carried out by comparing it with those of the Aeneid and the Homeric poems. The study of the similarities and differences between this works sheds light on how López Pinciano has adapted from the Virgilian model some structural and compositional elements of the classical epic poetry to extol the protagonist’s virtue as a Christian hero and illustrious founder of the Spanish monarchy En este artículo se realiza un análisis literario de la estructura y disposición de la epopeya Pelayo de López Pinciano mediante su comparación con las de la Odisea y la Eneida. El estudio de las semejanzas y diferencias entre las tres obras arroja luz acerca de cómo López Pinciano ha adaptado en su epopeya diversos elementos estructurales y compositivos de los grandes modelos clásicos para ensalzar la virtud del protagonista como héroe cristiano y fundador ilustre de la monarquía española.
