Summary:The relevance of the research is caused by electrical power industry reform being realized by step-by-step transition to a competitive market model which will allow each electricity producer to maximize its profit and to determine the electrical and thermal energy production output individually. The main aim of the study is to develop a mathematical model of optimal electric power loading for a generation company. Methods. The system concept with its structural and functional object models is the basis of the paper methodology. The theory optimization techniques and mathematical models, economical principles of management, the decision-making theory and computer science are widely used in the paper. The authors have proposed the methodology for evaluating optimal regimes for thermal power plants in generation company. It is based on the principle of equality between marginal revenue and marginal costs. Based on the developed criterion, the following problems are considered in the paper: calculation of incremental fuel rate characteristics for optimizing thermal electrical power stations functioning to produce electrical and thermal energy, optimization of thermal electrical power stations functioning to generate electrical energy, optimization of thermal electrical power stations functioning to produce thermal energy, development of the techniques to define the fuel consumption ratio for electrical and thermal energy generation separately, optimization of any electric power generating company functioning. The developed techniques are applied at Novosibirsk Thermal Electrical Power stations and SIBEKO Generation Company. Using the example of Novosibirsk combined heat and power plants, the following main factors influencing the optimal operating regime are identified: operating equipment structure, power generation cost and energy characteristics of power equipment. Results. The authors developed the methodology of thermal power plants optimization for electric power and thermal energy and proposed a new criterion of profit maximization for generation company management.
