Summary:The linguistic description of proper names is based on a presence/absence use of its characteristic features. Due to the diversity of the category components, this approach does not give access to its internal logic nor its relation to the other elements of the system. The free-flowing and partially reversible continuity of a structuring of proper names motivational patterns drawn from a corpus of Spanish journalist articles, which is based on the antagonism between the two nominal categories, invites us to reconsider the conventional conclusions of this binary approach which leads us to consider proper names as exceptional.
