Summary:In interview the American art librarian Joan Benedetti describes her career. She surveys her background in public libraries in Gary, Indiana and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, contrast this with museum librarianship, and focuses on her years at the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles. She discusses library development and grant applications, the limitations of LC subject headings for crafts, and her work on the CAFAM archive, comments on ethnic issues, and enumerates the library moves she orchestrated. She traces the integration of the CAFAM library into the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the archives into the UCLA (University of California at Los Angeles) Arts Special Collections and the dispersal of the museum objects, explains how the Center for the Study of Art and Culture was established, and comments on her association with ARLIS/NA.
