Summary:Schwannoma is a benign neural neoplasm originating from Schwann cells, usually solitary, encapsulated, slow-growing, and asymptomatic. In addition, its incidence is rare in the oral cavity. We report the case of a 14-year-old female patient who noticed the development of nodular lesion in the lingual ventral surface 8 months ago. On intraoral examination, the presence of a nodule in the ventral surface of the tongue on the right side, normochromic, spherical, soft, and with a smooth surface was observed. Ultrasound of the tongue showed the presence of a solid, hypoechogenic mass. Surgical excision was performed and the surgical specimen was sent for histopathologic examination, which showed fragments of benign tumor of neural origin, confirming a diagnosis of schwannoma. Because it is a benign lesion, surgical excision was the treatment of choice. The case has been under follow-up for 1 year, with no signs of recurrence.
