Summary:The Sm-based filled skutterudite phosphides SmT 4 P 12 ( T = Fe , Ru, Os) have been studied by 31 P-NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) and μ SR (muon spin relaxation). The ferromagnetic order and the heavy fermion behavior in SmFe 4 P 12 and the antiferromagnetic order in SmOs 4 P 12 were confirmed by 31 P-NMR and μ SR. In SmRu 4 P 12 , a successive anomaly around the metal–insulator transition temperature and around the Néel temperature was observed by 31 P-NMR in high applied magnetic fields. The μ SR results of SmRu 4 P 12 indicate the magnetic order below the metal-insulator transition temperature, which supports the existence of the octupolar order in SmRu 4 P 12 .
