Summary:In 1974, John Virgo established the Atlantic Economic Society (AES) to provide another forum within which those interested in issues related to economics could gather and exchange ideas. For the past 19 years, the offices of the Society have been housed on the campus of South Illinois University at Edwardsville, and it is here that the AES has found its niche within the economics profession and matured into a society that contributes consistently to our understanding of the world's economic systems, the relationship of economic environments to other environments, and the relationships between economics and other related disciplines as well as to the growth and development of economists and other professionals, whether inside or outside academics. The purposes which led to the founding of the AES will sustain the organization well into the 21st century.
