Bibliography: | In captivity at Nanchang Zoo,feed was given to blue-crowned at same place and time every day.We tested whether this could cause the decease or even loss of foraging ability, especially for birds hatched and reared in captivity.Based on the feeding method at Nanchang Zoo,we suspended the natural food of laughingthrushes to provide food for the captive birds. We then observed the frequency of foraging at the traditionally used feeder,on the ground, and on the suspended food to evaluate and select the optimum feeding method. Results showed that feed given on the ground with rich vegetation and suspended food met the conditions found in the bird' s natural habitat more than did the traditional feed-pot only.In winter, frequency of foraging on the ground increased significantly from 12.23 ± 2.96 to 16.10 ± 1.07 times when suspended wild berries were also provided. In summer, with suspended apples, the frequency of foraging at the traditional feed pot decreased significantly from 11.50 ± 0.87 to 9.50 ± 2.02.Meanwhile the d |
