Summary:Acquired valvular heart defects are a rapidly growing cause of increased global cardiovascular morbidity and mortality with a diverse and changing geographic distribution. In addition to the direct impact on intracardiac hemodynamics, heart valve defects cause various arrhythmias. Studies have shown that even minor changes in the structure and function of the valves, in particular, mitral valve prolapse, can lead to life-threatening arrhythmias. The article discusses the most common types of valvular heart disease among adults, epidemiological issues, pathogenesis features, and modern views on their correction. Arrhythmias associated with valvular heart defects, the potential of their drug and non-drug therapy in the light of modern research are analyzed.
