Summary:The addition of • CCl 3 and • Bu t radicals to (η 2 -C 70 )Os(CO)(PPh 3 ) 2 (CNBu t ) ( 1 ) and (η 2 -C 70 )[Os(CO)(PPh 3 ) 2 (CNBu t )] 2 ( 3 ) was studied by ESR spectroscopy. The metal fragment in complex 1 does not influence the regioselectivity of the addition of the radicals to it. The stability of the spin adducts formed upon addition of free radicals to complexes 1 and 3 is mainly governed by delocalization of the unpaired electron over three hexagonal rings.
