O, we measured temperature dependence of wavelength modulated (WM) absorption spectra of a Cu
2
O thin film sandwiched by MgO plates. In these spectra, excitonic resonances of 2P∼4P states are clearly observed even at 180 K. From these resonance spectral structures at each temperature, it is found that the band gap of the green series shifts to lower energy side than that of bulk crystals and the red shift becomes obvious with cooling down to 7 K. These results indicate that the trapping potential for the green excitons is formed by the uniaxial stress due to a lattice mismatch between the Cu
2
