Summary:Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate how environmental education is being applied in municipal schools in the city of Imperatriz, MA, with the purpose of encouraging healthy practices and preserving natural resources, promoting lectures and workshops with the aim of mitigating the damage caused to ecosystems and climate change.   Theoretical Framework: We started from bibliographic references of a descriptive qualitative approach in journals, articles and theses, based mainly on the authors Rabinovici and Neiman (2022), providing a solid basis for understanding the context of the investigation.   Methodology: For this research, the application of structured questionnaires with the institution's faculty was adopted in order to analyze the quality of teaching and their training in the area of environmental education. In this sense, lectures and workshops were held aimed at elementary school children with the themes of recycling, the importance of water and the functionality of insects in the ecosystem.   Results and discussions: A priori, the results of this study showed a lack of basic knowledge about sustainability among children, knowledge that should have been addressed in everyday school life. After the results of the questionnaire applied to the institution's teachers and staff, the lack of teaching resources and adequate training to work on this topic of environmental education in the classroom became evident.   Research implications: The practices and theories of this research are discussed, providing insights on how the results can be applied or influence practices in the field of environmental education. These implications may include mitigation of damage to the ecosystem, environmental awareness, and possible solutions to climate change.   Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature on environmental education, as it requires better application and studies of the curricular bases regarding the transversal discipline. It becomes relevant because the value of this research is evidenced by containing interesting results of guiding and transversal practices in relation to climate change and the importance of this subject for future generations.
