Summary:This study was conducted to improve the germination ability and to determine a suitable substrate for Sachi seedlings (P. volubilis L.) at the nursery stage. The experiment was conducted in completed randomized design with three replicates. The result showed that: Treatment hot water effect to germination ability of P. volubilis seed, with 2 boiled water in 3 cool water (equivalent 52oC) gave highest germination seed number and rate. Immersion seed of P. volubilis in 2 boiled water in 3 cool water (equivalent 52oC) in 16 hours was the best at germination (equivalent 16.3 seeds and 41.5%). Mixed substrate with 3 soil : 1 farmyard manure plus 0.5 kg Que Lam compost indicated the most rapidly growth plant with 27.32 cm plant height, 7.98 leafs per plant and the shortest nursery period (only 31 days).
