Summary:Using the method of digital photo processing, four colour groups of Mytilus galloprovincialis are identified: black, intermediate, dark and light brown. The investigation materials were mature mussels (males and females) with the shell length ranging from 42 to 75 cm. The activities of alanine and aspartate aminotransferases, taking part in processes of anaerobic metabolism between groups, differ significantly. The highest divergence (1.5-2.8 times) was observed between the edge groups with black and light brown shell colour. It is suggested that it can be related to mussels' adaptation to environmental conditions of rocky shores and seabed ecotopes.
