Summary:The present study aimed to characterize the nutritional status of children aged zero to five years in the Metropolitan Health Region I between the years 2016 to 2020. This is a descriptive quantitative study with secondary data from the National Food and Nutrition Surveillance System (SISVAN - WEB). The collection of these data was carried out from June to July 2021. The results showed high percentages of children with nutritional deficits, such as Low Weight for Age, Low Height for Age and Low BMI for Age, as well as a significant percentage of eutrophic children and with High Weight for Age in the five municipalities from which the data were extracted (Belém, Ananindeua, Benevides, Marituba and Santa Barbara do Pará). It was possible to identify that nutritional problems caused by economic, demographic and social factors are directly impacting the nutritional status of children belonging to metropolitan health region I.
