Summary:ABSTRACT This article presents the analysis of set of data collected through a long process of anthropological research on the relationship between forest companies and Mapuche communities in the Araucanía Region. Among the main results are orientations of transnational capitalism in the man- agement of relations with the Mapuche communities, incidents in the constructions of otherness that invigorate the daily lives of the territory. Keywords: Otherness, mapuche communities, forest companies, economic development.
