Summary:This study was carried out to determine the potential and present situation of aquaculture in the Sivas province located at Central Anatolian region of Turkey. Aquaculture is a relatively recent sector in the World and Turkey, enjoying great potential for development. Turkey is also endowed with rich freshwater and marine ecosystems with aquaculture potential. The province of Sivas is located at the eastern part of the Central Anatolian region of Turkey. The majority of Sivas Province shares the climate of terrestrial in which the summer seasons are hot and dry while winter seasons are cold and snowy. However, the northern part of the Sivas province shares the Black Sea climate. Thirty seven aquaculture farms are present in the Sivas and their total production capacity is about 770 tons/years in project base. About 50 % of this production occurs in the farms in the Gueruen town. The goal of aquaculture is grow in a manner that does not harm to aquatic ecosystems. Therefore, monitoring of environmental impacts of aquaculture is very important for aquatic ecosystems conservation in Sivas Province.
