Summary:Muramyl dipeptide (MDP) and its analogs have been considered for improving host defense, and are effective in combination with antibiotics in treating infections in immunosuppressed and immunodeficient patients. This paper deals with the protective effect of MDP-Lys (L18) against experimental pneumonia with P. aeruginosa in immunosuppressed guinea pigs and with histopathological manifestation possibly responsible for its effectiveness.
